The Regulatory Specialist is responsible for coordinating regulatory filings, and for communicating regulatory requirements and implementing, coordinating, and managing activities within the company to achieve compliance with those requirements.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Communicate regulatory requirements related to retail and wholesale electricity and natural gas to operating companies and members of management
Ensure operational compliance with state and federal regulatory rules and requirements
Track regulatory reporting requirements and assist operating departments with preparation of required reports, including compliance reporting around renewable products
Manage changes to terms of service documents for retail markets; ensure compliance of documents with regulatory rules
Research and analyze regulatory rules and related legislation, and track rule changes
Develop and maintain knowledge of the electricity and natural gas industry in retail competitive states
Assists consumer affairs team with investigating, analyzing, and responding to consumer complaints from regulatory agencies, utilities, Better Business Bureaus (“BBB”), media representatives, and attorneys from each jurisdiction in which Spark conducts business.
Additional responsibilities as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, public policy, legal studies or business required. Advanced degree desirable.
Proficiency in tariff analysis, regulatory interpretation, and energy pricing highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills, detail oriented but able to grasp high level concepts.
3+ years of experience with retail energy matters in a retail energy, utility or regulatory environment
Willingness to grow into/explore new business opportunities and requirements in a dynamic industry setting
Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
Could involve some lifting up to 20 pounds.
Ability to sit for extended periods of time without much movement.
Ability to work in time-sensitive environment with non-flexible deadlines.
