Job Description Summary
Executive leader who heads a sub-function within the Corporate Compliance organization of Bank of the West. This Head of Lending Compliance Advisory, Lending leads a team of Compliance professionals responsible for providing partnership, expertise, support and advice to business partners in the identification and management of applicable compliance risks and in deployment of the Compliance Program. This position requires the ability to provide proactive risk management, be solutions oriented, provide strategic vision to the team and business partners, cultivate deep compliance expertise on the team, and lead a large team of experienced professionals. This role will report directly to the Head of Compliance Advisory.
Essential Job Functions
Manages a group of compliance professionals with deep knowledge and expertise in areas of Consumer, Small Business and Commercial related compliance. Provides expertise, advice and guidance to the first line of defense on compliance risks and emerging risks related to business strategy, processes and practices, controls, systems/tools and changes. Provides effective challenge to business partners relative to business strategy, decisions and related compliance risks.
Understands applicability and detailed requirements of all applicable laws and regulations and related operational processes, controls, and related effectiveness and risks. Actively monitors and engages in related industry activities to ensure continued understanding of emerging risks and areas of opportunity.
Supports and advises on business related control design, risks and opportunities. Supports execution of compliance risk assessments through liasion with the business and assessment owners within the Compliance organization, understanding of business related implementation of applicable requirements and providing effective challenge.
Supports and conducts 2nd line monitoring activities as appropriate and provide timely feedback to business partners. Applies the compliance issue management practices to ensure accountability and sound corrective action and requisite reporting and escalation requirements. Monitor progress to address applicable compliance risks as appropriate.
Conducts due diligence of compliance risks related to third parties, new initiatives, products and services, regulatory changes, and other applicable business changes.
Reviews and advises on applicable business procedures, targeted training content and audiences, marketing efforts and materials and disclosures.
Supports design and deployment of applicable Compliance training content
Advises on and support applicable regulatory changes and monitor business implementation
Other Job Duties
Supports execution of requisite Compliance reporting and governance
Supports and advises on and monitor applicable compliance related issues, customer restitution efforts, and ensure alignment with issue management standards and other applicable policies and procedures
Chairs and/or actively participates in various Bank steering committees, own and/or support compliance policy development and updates, interact with other executive leaders throughout the organization, and update senior executive leadership regarding matters of strategic importance to the organization.
Engages with other Compliance Advisory, Compliance Domain and Compliance Program Mgmt teams as appropriate.
Within scope of responsibility is empowered and entitled to make final decisions for escalated compliance issues related to supported business line(s).
Provides point of contact support to designated business lines as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned
12 - 15 Years applicable banking and financial service compliance experience
5 years working closely with applicable regulatory agencies and related examinations.
Licenses & Certifications
Excellent communication and presentation skills, including prior experience engaging executive management.
Negotiate and influence business partners and executive leadership relative to compliance regulatory risk factors, which may have strategic importance to the Bank.
Build strong relationships with Bank of the West, Intermediate Holding Company and BNPP executives and business partners.
Affect and support the Bank’s relationship with regulators by actively participating in periodic updates and exam interactions.
