The Legal and Compliance Assistant assists the FAF’s Vice President & General Counsel in managing effectively and efficiently all aspects of the documentation relating to FAF’s legal functions.  

 

Position Responsibilities:

The Legal and Compliance Assistant assists the FAF’s attorneys in a broad range of matters, including:

  • managing the FAF’s tracking, execution and filing of contracts;
  • reviewing routine contracts and purchase orders against FAF precedents and applicable FAF policies, and escalating appropriate issues to the FAF’s attorneys’;
  • managing the filing and administration of corporate policies and governance documents (include minutes);
  • managing the FAF’s workflow processes for periodic reviews of risk management assessments and of internal policies;
  • managing various compliance-related confirmation processes and assisting with other compliance projects, including administration of any policy hosting and compliance portal that the FAF may establish;
  • managing the FAF’s external portal for ombuds reporting, including periodic testing of the system, and appropriate escalation of issues to the FAF’s attorneys;
  • reviewing routine revisions of or amendments to contracts and legal or compliance documents, as supervised by the FAF’s attorneys;
  • assisting the FAF’s attorneys with research and analysis; and
  • general support on administrative and operational matters.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college (or equivalent)
  • At least three years of legal administrative experience in a law firm or corporation
  • Paralegal certification preferred but not required
  • Mature and capable of effectively communicating with attorneys and other employees
  • Ability to operate independently and take ownership of projects
  • Ability to prioritize and to manage multiple and simultaneous deadlines
  • Must be responsive to a wide range of demands and must show significant initiative in addressing issues
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment and exhibit attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally and consistent with legal and ethical policies
  • Demonstrated skills in creating, editing and comparing electronic documents in a variety of formats, including Excel spreadsheets, and the general ability to serve as an administrator of a compliance or contract management platform.
