Workday’s legal department closely partners with the business, providing proactive and innovative counsel that helps drive groundbreaking products and services. We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced high-performing product compliance attorney who will be responsible for providing strategic, tactical and execution level legal support of all phases of our product development compliance initiatives.
Product compliance focuses specifically on the intersection between the compliance obligations and needs of our customers and prospective customers, and the functionality we build into our product offerings. We partner with a variety of internal stakeholders to ensure that Workday builds competitive functionality that helps our customers meet their regulatory and other compliance obligations. We also partner with the marketing and sales organizations for important feedback opportunities to improve and to help deliver Workday’s product compliance story to prospective customers and customers. In this context, the Senior Product Compliance Counsel role will be responsible for supporting all product lines, with an emphasis on Workday’s Payroll and Time Tracking product lines. This includes assisting the Product teams in a variety of ways, including responding to customer and prospect questions, performing and/or managing large-scale research projects and initiatives, and providing strategic support to assist product teams in building and maintaining appropriate guidelines and processes regarding product compliance issues.
This position will interact closely with business clients and cross-functional teams. As a senior member of the department, you must have the ability to operate independently in can prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced and high-growth environment to drive resolutions to successful closure. Required Skills & Experience
At least eight (8) years of high-quality employment law experience in a leading employment law firm or the employment section of a top-tier general practice firm with a focus on payroll/wage and hour compliance issues. Experience in an in-house employment counsel role not required but considered a plus.
Solid knowledge of U.S. employment laws, with an emphasis on payroll/wage and hour and payroll taxation issues. Experience with global payroll-related requirements considered a plus.

Skilled at understanding and apply a wide range of legal principles, theories and concepts in the related field.

Detail-oriented, meticulous and strong organizational skills.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create and sustain lasting relationships with internal clients and management.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and Juris Doctor degree from a leading law school. Licensed to practice law in California or eligible for in-house certification.
