The incumbent reports directly to the Operations Leader or Senior Executive.  The incumbent works collaboratively with management to achieve system objectives.   The incumbent works cooperatively with laboratory management to assure the laboratory quality program meets all standards as prescribed by regulation.  The incumbent provides leadership and oversight in developing functions that directly support the delivery of hematology and coagulation testing in a manner consistent with organizational needs.


Critically monitors and evaluates requirements for all lab testing in area of specialty currently in practice. Acts as a resource for technical information regarding clinical lab instruments & equipment. Recognizes & corrects instrument malfunctions; resolves instrument and testing issues. Works as needed as MT. Responds to requests for information and questions from clinical personnel involved in patient care in a timely manner.

Assures regulatory compliance with testing standards of specialty in coordination with managers/directors at all sites as prescribed by accreditation agencies such as College of American Pathologist, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and CLIA '88 regulations.  Demonstrates consistent adherence to national safety goals.

Leads the development of new tests and creates the policies and procedures that standardize practices across the system which follow Lean Principles. Monitors technical aspects of the designated specialty area, conducts research and development of new technology and procedures. Assists all lab sites in meeting turnaround time goals and reduction of common errors.

Maintains a professional knowledge base of laboratory science by accumulating the minimum CEUs required per year.  Creates competency as assigned within established timeframes. Keeps abreast of trends and developments in area of specialty and makes suggestions for improvement.

Communicates positively about Alegent Health and with all lab staff, nurses, doctors, patients, & clinic staff.  Respectfully acknowledges those not normally in your work area, and those communicating to you.  Respond to all requests in an appropriate timeframe.  Takes a lead role implementing projects within deadline by working collaboratively with staff, coordinators, and management.  Utilizes WOW and CARE tools.  Smiles and has eye contact with those in work environment.

Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.

Demonstrates work practices consistent with Alegent Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies.

Must have ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural  environment.

Minimum of two years of experience in clinical laboratory science with one year of experience in specialty discipline is preferred.
 
Education:
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or a related field is required.  Registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Medical Lab Tech or Medical Tech. is highly desirable.
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
